Early sound exposure in the womb shapes the auditory system
An MIT-led study suggests degraded sensory input is beneficial, and necessary, for auditory development. Using computer models of the human auditory system, researchers showed limiting input to low-frequency sounds as the model learned to perform certain tasks improved their performance.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Extended High-Frequency Hearing Thresholds in Tinnitus With a Normal Audiogram
The findings underscore the significance of extended high-frequency (EHF: 9-20 kHz) audiometry in clinical practice, which may help both early identification of individuals susceptible to developing tinnitus and reduce the number of new cases through preventive counseling programs.
