Listening effort in hearing aid users: Is it related to hearing aid use and satisfaction?

The authors report this may be the first study to demonstrate a strong link between listening effort, daily HA use time, and HA satisfaction. Evaluating listening effort following the HA fitting session may provide preliminary information about the treatment success of HA.

Early Hearing Loss Detection in Gout using Extended High Frequency Audiometry

From 4000-18000 Hz, the hearing thresholds were significantly higher in patients with gout. Also, the hearing thresholds above 8000 Hz were positively correlated with serum uric acid levels. The authors note this may be the first study demonstrating the high frequency hearing loss in patients with gout using extended high frequencies audiometry. Using extended high frequencies audiometry should have an important place in the early detection of potential hearing losses in gout patients.
