Promising study using Acousia Therapeutics drug protects hearing function and promotes outer hair cell survival in a mouse model for age-related hearing loss

A potassium channel (Kv7.4) critical for outer hair cell (OHC) function and implicated in age-related hearing loss is the target of the new Acousia Therapeutics (ACOU085) small-molecule otoprotective drug candidate. In this study, researchers show activation of that channel can significantly reduce age-related threshold shifts of ABRs as well as OHC loss in a mouse model.

CMS issues 2023 Proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule

FDA's Final OTC Hearing Aid Rule Moves to OMB

On July 8, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced that it had received the FDA's final rule for Over-the-Counter (OTC) hearing aids. Speculatively, judging by past actions, this could suggest an early September publication of the final rules by FDA, followed by an October publication of the rules in the Federal Register.
