While a standard microspeaker has a constant sound level for lower frequencies and drops at higher frequencies, sound from the SonicEdge's ultrasound speaker creates a volume velocity source, regardless of frequency. In microspeaker applications this reportedly enables increasing SPL for lower frequencies and extended SPL at high frequencies, up to 20kHz.
