Prevalence and global estimates of unsafe listening practices in adolescents and young adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis

For individuals aged 12–34 years, the prevalence estimate of exposure to unsafe listening from personal listening devices was 24%, and 48% when expanded to loud entertainment venues. The global number of young people at risk of hearing loss due to unsafe listening practices ranges from 0.67 to 1.35 billion. The authors contend there is an urgent need to prioritize policy focused on safe listening, and the WHO provides materials to aid in policy development and implementation.
