The Importance of Extended High Frequencies (EHF) in Hearing Evaluation of Pediatric Patients with Type 1 Diabetes

Children with diabetes showed normal hearing thresholds within the conventional audiometric frequency range, but presented higher thresholds during extended high frequency audiometry (>8,000 Hz). The authors say diabetic children with an EHF mean hearing threshold above 15 dB HL should be monitored more closely in terms of blood glucose regulation to prevent diabetes-related hearing loss.

Auditory brainstem response deficits in learning disorders and developmental language disorder: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Although learning disorders (LD) and developmental language disorder (DLD) can be linked to overlapping psychological and behavioral deficits, can they be differentiated based on the auditory brainstem response (ABR)? The researchers demonstrated that while both LD and DLD are associated with longer latencies in ABR waves, multilevel subgroup analyses revealed that LD and DLD do not significantly differ for these waves.
