Herbal medicines in the treatment of tinnitus: An updated review

This group of researchers from China evaluated the efficacy of herbal medicines in the treatment of tinnitus by reviewing the evidence of relevant randomized controlled trials, noting that currently available evidence on herbal medicines for tinnitus is overall of insufficient quality and the conclusions from existing trials are conflicting.

Patients with unilateral vs. bilateral tinnitus: A comparison of interaural asymmetry, audiogram slope, and psychometric measures of tinnitus, hyperacusis, anxiety, and depression

Most patients (62%) seeking help for tinnitus in the study had bilateral tinnitus. For patients with unilateral tinnitus, the ears with tinnitus generally had higher and greater sloping hearing threshold levels (HTL) than the ears without tinnitus. Unilateral tinnitus increases the risk of having asymmetrical HTLs which warrants referral, but self-reported tinnitus severity was not significant between unilateral and bilateral tinnitus.
