Human cochlear microstructures at risk of electrode insertion trauma revealed by 3D contrast-enhanced microCT scans

Cochlear implants can traumatize delicate intracochlear structures, resulting in loss of residual hearing and compromising hearing in noisy environments and appreciation of music. This research published in 'Nature' illustrates how new nondestructive 3D visualization of these structures can be achieved with contrast-enhanced microCT imaging (CECT).
