Plasma Metabolic Biomarkers and Persistent Tinnitus

Small molecules in the blood necessary for cell metabolism, called metabolites, were analyzed in a group of about 6,500 women, including about 500 who had daily persistent tinnitus. The researchers found three metabolites that were positively associated and two that were inversely associated with persistent tinnitus. This suggests further studies involving metabolites may help improve our understanding of tinnitus and identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets for it.
