Tiny animal hairs could act as sensitive compass needles

Research shows that some animals, like migrating birds, may be able to perceive Earth's magnetic field (magnetoreception) with bundles of microscopic hairs in the cochlea.

FDA Approves Fennec Hearing Loss Treatment for Pediatric Cancer Patients Treated with Cisplatin

The FDA has approved Fennec Pharmaceuticals' drug, Pedmark, which uses sodium thiosulfate to reduce the risk of ototoxicity-induced hearing loss in children during cancer treatments involving the drug cisplatin. An estimated 10,000 children in the U.S. and Europe receive platinum-based chemotherapy each year.
