This cross-sectional analysis suggests that plaque in the arteries during midlife is associated with worse hearing later in life. Specifically, the study shows an additional 0.1 mm higher mean carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) was associated with 0.59 decibels higher 4PTA.

Current consumer attitudes and opinions found in this survey suggest that direct-to-consumer (DTC) hearing healthcare may not find immediate acceptance by most potential hearing aid seekers in the US. Most respondents (age ≥50 with no previous HA experience) reported discomfort with pursuing hearing aids via DTC pathways, with 84% (874 of 1037) indicating they would pursue hearing healthcare via an in-person model.
