Reporting of auditory symptoms over time: (in)consistencies, expectations and the nocebo effect

Many participants in this large-scale survey who reported experiencing tinnitus and/or hearing difficulties in 2019 said in 2021 that they'd never had such symptoms. The findings highlight the importance of considering the reporting timeframe and wording used in self-report questionnaires. It also raises the issue of how best to assess symptoms in a clinical setting and when designing research protocols.
