Restoring speech intelligibility for hearing aid users with deep learning

A Berlin-based research team published a paper today in 'Nature-Scientific Reports' about a new neural network-based system they say enables hearing aid users to achieve speech-in-noise intelligibility levels comparable to those for normal-hearing listeners across multiple noise environments. The system currently runs in real-time on a laptop but might be available on a chip "within a few years."
